About Me
- Dalton R. Phillips
- I served in the U.S. Navy from June 1964 to September 1987, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer (E8). I am a Vietnam War veteran. I worked for several DOD contractors, including General Dynamics/Bath Iron Works, until I retired on disability in 2004. I am rated as 100 percent disabled by the VA because of severe lung scarring most likely ccaused by asbestos exposure back in the 1960's. I lived in Jacksonville, Florida from 1987 to 2004, when we moved back to Texas to be closer to the grandchildren. I now live in Temple, Texas.

The USS HANCOCK (CVA-19) was the first ship I served aboard in the Navy. It was over twenty years old when I reported aboard in October of 1964. It was a proud old ship and it was very special for all of us who served aboard it during its active lifespan (1944 - 1975). You can read more about my experiences on the HANCOCK by visiting my main website.

Hello Dalton, I was in a Department of the Navy, the Marine Corps, from September 66 to September of 1969. What I have to share is a two minute and forty second video of that time period in which we both served, Vietnam.

ReplyDeleteHi,
I need your help, I've already reached people who care deeply about the issues concerning military veterans. But if we are going to have an impact, it's critical that we get 50 signatures before we deliver the petition to The United States House of Representatives, The United States Senate, and President Barack Obama.
With your help, we can reach our goal! Can you please share this link with five of your friends right now: http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/force-general-allison?source=c.em&r_by=1959911
Thank you for taking a stand on this important issue.

Dear Mr. Phillips,
ReplyDeleteI am Elise Heikens, I am from the Netherlands and seventeen years old. I am writing because I have
read your veteran blog and I am very impressed by your dedication to the U.S. Navy and by what you
did and sacrificed for your country. I have to do an investigation for my term paper and I came up, among
other things because of your blog, with the Vietnam War. I think it is both an dreadful and very interesting
subject. I hoped you could answer some questions for me, that way I might understand the circumstances
during the war a little bit better.
Questions:
- Did you voluntarily go to Vietnam? And if so, what was the reason you wanted to fight there?
- What was the atmosphere among each other?
- Did you come in contact with the South-Vietnamese people? And if so, what was your relationship with them?
- How did you keep in touch with your family and friends at home?
- In what way did the American government helped you after you’ve become disabled? And in what way did this
affect your life from that point on?
- Have you ever regretted going to Vietnam?
- Do you feel like the Americans won the war?
I look forward to hearing from you soon and thank you in advance for any help you can provide!
Yours sincerely,
Elise Heikens
